RuneScape: Dragonwilds dedicated servers, explained

A dedicated server is a version of your world that runs on its own machine instead of inside a player's game. Here is what that buys you, what it needs, and the three ways to get one.

Updated 2026-09-20

Dedicated server vs. hosting from inside the game

Dragonwilds lets one player host a world from inside their own game session — up to 4 players can join that way, and the world stops the moment the host quits or their connection drops. A dedicated server is different software entirely: it runs the world on its own, independent of any player, holds up to 6 players, and stays online whether anyone is connected or not.

If your group plays on a set schedule and one person is always around to host, in-game hosting is free and simple. If you want the world up around the clock, or your group is spread across time zones, a dedicated server is the only way to get that.

What changed at the 1.0 launch

Dragonwilds 1.0 shipped on September 15, 2026 alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, with full crossplay across PC and all three consoles. Console players can join a dedicated world; consoles still cannot host one — only 64-bit Windows or Linux can run the dedicated-server software. See how crossplay works on a dedicated server.

Skip the setup — deploy a Dragonwilds world instead

Wyrm Host runs the machine, installs the dedicated server, and hands you a connect address, online in minutes with backups and auto-updates handled for you.
